Tactical Plays

These are my 9 favorites tactical plays to work out with players in all levels!!

  1. Simply to keep the ball in play anywhere on the court. The purpose here is to OUTLAST the opponent , playing consistent tennis .Perhaps the simplest tactic in tennis!!!
  2. To consistently hit all the shots towards one previously selected target e.g.: opponent’s backhand. The idea here is to test the opponent consistency in that shot and, also to force them to make an error or to hit a short shot .
  3. To move the ball around the court trying to outmaneuver the opponent. Here the player would have to change spins, pace, heights, in order to successfully accomplish this tactic.
  4. To consciously set up the point to use the favorite shot (weapon). E.g. Forehand inside out or backhand down the line.
  5. To bring the opponent towards the forecourt .The purpose here is to take the player out of the comfort zone (baseline) and, to test their forward movement as well. In addition to observe the skills that he or she possesses at the net.
  6. Whenever possible to attack the net!!! Whether serving and volleying or returning and coming in, or attacking the very first short ball available.
  7. Sneak attack tactic!!!! . Here the player will try to sneak in by attacking the net whenever the opportunity presents itself.
  8. To try to overpower the opponent utilizing the potency of every shot .
  9. To play kind of neutral shots ( medium pace required here) early on the point, and little by little begin to accelerate the racket creating more zip on the shots forcing the rival to hit short or perhaps to commit an error.
